| View in browser • November 2022 Newsletter 🦃🍂  Ideas Competition - Winners Announced! The Derby Entrepreneurship Center at Tufts hosted the Ideas Competition last Thursday evening. This fully hybrid event welcomed audience members, teams, and judges to join either in-person or remotely. The theme was "Tackling Problems Worth Solving," and it was exciting to listen to each of the 10 teams identify and solve a unique problem. The winning teams shared their plans for growing from idea to impact and why they chose these compelling problems to solve. Congratulations to our winning teams: Equiballot, Malikat Project, Yummy Greens, Tylt, and ShapeUp.   To learn more about the winners of the Ideas Competition, check out our recap of the event! READ IDEAS COMPETITION RECAP! Montle Prize Competition: Applications Accepted through Nov. 30 Paul Montle (Class of 1969) created the Montle Prize for Entrepreneurial Achievement to commend outstanding undergraduate Tufts students who demonstrate entrepreneurial skills. This award is intended for undergraduate students with an entrepreneurial mindset and skillset, acquired through entrepreneurship courses, co-curricular events, competitions, and/or from experience working either individually or in a team on a new venture. This award is offered through the Derby Entrepreneurship Center (DEC) LEARN ABOUT MONTLE PRIZE Entrepreneurial Speaker Series  We wrapped up the Entrepreneurial Speaker Series for the semester with three high-powered speakers: Kathy Linhares on Marketing and CX, Steve Ng, E86 on Product Development, and Josh Kapelman, A12 (who is also a Member of the Board of Advisors at DEC) capped the series on a high note with his talk on Team and Culture.   For his talk with our Introduction to Making students on the Hamboards Surfskate case, Steve sent us a sample skateboard. Our student Leo Terry made a video showing what the new truck design can do. Have a look! SEE SKATEBOARD VIDEO • Save the date: November 29, 2022 We need your help on #TuftsGivingTuesday (Nov. 29)! Next Tuesday, we will launch the biggest giving day of the year! We have the generous support of our Board Member, Josh Kapelman, A12, who is giving $10,000 after we reach our first 50 gifts. In addition, George Hawthorne, E69, will match dollar for dollar up to $4,000. Be on the lookout for opportunities to give, starting Tuesday morning. You can also make a gift today, and it will count towards #TuftsGivingTuesday - please choose "Derby Entrepreneurship Center" as the Destination.   This is your chance to personally help fund programs that directly impact the next wave of #Jumbopreneurs. Learn more and register   M2D2 IMPACT Cycle 4 Accelerator Pitch-Off • Apply by Nov. 30 Join the Massachusetts life sciences community as the startups from the Cycle 4 Cohort pitch their medical device solution to a panel of judges. These startups are working with M2D2 to advance the commercialization of their technology through the IMPACT Accelerator Program, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson Innovation. Learn more and apply here   GLOBAL HEALTH INNOVATION CHALLENGE (GHIC) This challenge will increase availability and access to capital for new and existing private companies, which are developing solutions for global health, mental health, and sustainability.  Learn more and register   HAX TECH SHARE This monthly event is led by HAX investment partners and founders focused on relevant knowledge for hard tech entrepreneurs. We'll cover lessons and best practices across a different technical topic each month (everything from best practices for low-fidelity prototyping to how to build a B2B sales pipeline for hard tech), and field questions from the audience.
